Community Essay
Mia Doreen George Professor Meaks ENGL 21001-R CCNY: S-209 1/31/25 The Overlooked Shades of Red: I see community as the culmination of people, coming together with a common idea that they work to manifest together, all while also supporting, as well as being there, for each other in the face of adversities and hardships. I see community as a second family, as well as powerful spaces of organization. The Sickle Cell Community envelops all of these aforementioned attributes. The community was built to aid people who have Sickle Cell. Sickle Cell is a blood disease that shapes normally round blood cells into crescent ones, leaving the blood weaker and more…

Self Grading Assignment
Mia Doreen George Professor Meaks ENGL 21001-R CCNY: S-209 5/19/26 Self Grading Assignment: I believe that I am deserving of an A grade for the class of ‘Writing for Humanities & Arts’ with Professor Meaks at CCNY. In terms of attendance, I was mostly on time. I never left class early, nor in the middle of class. For the times that I was late, it was always due to issues with public transportation. Mia Doreen GeorgeProfessor MeaksENGL 21001-RCCNY: S-2094/13/26Conference Paper: Has your anger ever blinded you? How do you treat others blinded by such an emotion? In ‘How Anger Works’ by Sznycer, Daniel ; Sell, Aaron ; Dumont, Alexandre, it is said that: “They believe that anger is elicited by an offense; that anger has physiological effects (e.g., heat, agitation); that one can try, but fail, to control one’s anger (as if anger were a hot fluid in a pressurized container);” In my paper today, I will be exploring and challenging this – the perception of anger, what anger can really be construed to be, and what we can do with it. I will…

Reflection Blog on Difficult At Parties
Mia Doreen George Professor Meaks ENGL 21001-R CCNY: S-209 3/17/26 Reflection on: Difficult at Parties Introduction: For this piece it was really important to me that I approached it with sensitivity and empathy as I was dealing with a heavier topic of Sexual Assault and its effects on people. I incorporated better paragraph breaks to make the piece better to digest for my portfolio. I also included more detail when speaking about the idea of ones ‘veil of safety’ being violated. In the future I want to focus on how I can better approach these topics so I can talk about them with as much sensitivity and respect as possible.…

“Inventory,” “Mothers,” or “Real Women Have Bodies”
A portrait of the female body. This connects to Machado’s work by not sexualizing the body, but rather showcasing the art of the female body and how beautiful it is when left alone. While reading ‘Inventory’, ‘Mothers’ & ‘Real Women Have Bodies’ by Carmen Machado I beg the question: “What happens when a woman’s body is finally her own?” In ‘Inventory’ the woman is scared of her body being taken by a virus so she fills her time by indulging in the bodies of others as a way of feeling her age, of feeling distraction even. In ‘Mothers’ the main character thinks of a world where she can live out…
